Nina
My name is Nina Kapetanović. I am 21 year old and I am from Bosnia.
I was born with bone condition called Multiple Epiphyseal Dysplasia. I was diagnosed when i was 7. When i was 15 i started having many problems in everyday life since i had the limb discrepancy.
Right femur was about 5cm shorter than left. The difference affected many other things and quality of my life. It ended up with surgeries and pain injections for weeks and months, scoliosis…
And then miracle happen.
One day i met Prof.Dr Yasser in hospital in Bosnia where he was doing his humanitarian work for Bosnian patients, 6 years ago. Since my diagnosis brings the limb discrepancy and low production of growth hormone (GH), Prof.Dr Yasser encouraged me to do life changing surgery and solve both problems in one surgery. It was limb lenghtening surgery.
The most important thing for me was to solve problem with shorter limb but i had a chance to fix the problem with short stature in the same surgery, and i am thankfull to Prof.Dr Yasser for that.
Surgery has to be done in his clinic in Cairo since the proccess of limb lengtening is very long and needed to be followed by him.
I had my big surgery in July 2017 where i get the external fixators. I had to live with those devices for 9 months and then get them removed. I removed the fixators in February 2018.
During the proccess and after i removed fixators, i went to intensive physiotherapy to get my mucles and movements back. Physiotherapy has to be done since the first day after surgery till the day of removing the fixators. That is one of the most important things in this kind of surgeries.
I recovered and now i am living my best life. This surgery changed quality of my life from the bottom.
I don’t have to deal with pain injections, scoliosis, pain after walking or exercising anymore.
Also, i am satisfied with how my height look like. Even if that wasn’t important to me, becouse i wanted to solve my health problem and be pain free – that was my priority, Prof.Dr Yasser encouraged me to do it since we have a chance becouse it is posibble to be done in one surgery.
Now i am thankfull for that. It was a long proccess but it was worth it.
My doctor is my miracle. He was my biggest support, after my family.
He was open for every single question that i have asked. He wanted me to be mentally prepared for the proccess since it take a lot of patientce.
Prof.Dr Yasser solved my life problem and gave me the a huge chance to live a normal life.
